Climate Change and Health in the Amazon

November 17, 2021

The Amazon has been at the center of debates about the impacts of Climate Change. The effects and possible policies for this scenario have been discussed internationally. The climate crisis poses a serious threat to the health of the region’s population, which is subject to the effects of climate change, such as the occurrence of extreme events, temperature increases, and changes in rainfall patterns. The Center for Climate and Health Studies (NECS), which brings together researchers from UFBA, UNEMAT, UFMT, UFPA, UERJ and Fiocruz, will discuss the topic in the webinar “Climate Change and Health in the Amazon“, on November 17, at 2 pm, on the YouTube channel of the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS).

The event will address the consequences of climate change on the health of the Amazonian populations, such as the higher incidence of diseases and the need for public policies for this scenario. Participating in the event are Beatriz Oliveira (Fiocruz Piauí), Thais Cavendish(general coordinator of Environmental Health Surveillance – Ministry of Health) and Sineia Wapichana (Indigenous Council of Roraima). The webinar will be opened by Leonildes Nazar (iCS) and moderated by Ismael Silveira (UFBA/NECS).
