Suraras do Tapajós

The first carimbó group in Brazil made up entirely of Indigenous women, founded in 2018 in Alter do Chão (Pará), with members from the Borari, Arapium, and Tapajó peoples. They sing in Portuguese and Nheengatu about ancestry, women’s rights, and the environment. They took part in the show Gales (Ventanias), presented at the Baile na Terra festival in September 2022 at Tendal da Lapa, in São Paulo, in celebration of Amazon Day. They were consulted for the publications Culture in the Amazonias: Perspectives, Identities, and Policies for the Territory (July 2025) and Indigenous Women’s Bioeconomy in the Amazon: Voices of Generations (November 2025).
