Genilson Guajajara

A photographer from the Piçarra Preta village in the Rio Pindaré Indigenous Territory (Maranhão), Genilson had his first contact with photography at age 23, while taking part in a political education workshop promoted by the organization Justiça nos Trilhos, from the Federal University of Maranhão.

His work centers on his community, its customs, and its daily life. While he initially took photographs with a cell phone, he now uses professional equipment to tell the stories of the Guajajara people, and, starting in February 2023, his photographs illustrated the Concertation’s various digital channels.
